FLORENCE ITABA

A 17yr old teenage mother in third trimester dropped out of school (primary six) by the beginning of the year from findings from Eperaz Dhibi (her aunty) and herself, Florence expresses failure and un preparedness to mother her baby that is knocking any time soon, she feels she has no power to change and shape the future of her baby and herself and with all she learnt from antenatal, she knows she can be a better mother by breast feeding in time and keeping personal hygiene only.
She also expresses fear and mental break down to the degree of considering running out of home and suicide

MOSES OYEKA

A 17yr old young man who was given to street life, had no sense of direction towards life and had no hope _“what have you done to my son? she asks as her tone reflects so much pain and failure , what have you given him…Moses was picking left over crumbs from rubbish pits as his food, he under scored in achieving his mile stones in life as a child and that is why he couldn’t cope with school, matter of fact he only stepped primary 1 class, he was very uncomfortable at home especially from the time I and his dad patted ways, he kept randomly leaving home to a distant land by some sort of possession and he would take months and never returned and we all worried and never knew what to do” reports his mother while seating under a tree with Martha from CHCU as Moses lay on a sick hospital bed inside the ward. “Martha! thank you for what you people have been able to do in the life of Moses until this far, she continues, from the time he met you people, he has been coming back home and stays for a few days and get back to the streets again, l have noticed his change especially his sense of responsibility, whenever he comes he buys bread with him for his siblings and leaves me with money which has never been his behavior from the years past and he has also told me of how he joined the manifest fellowship which has been his refuge, his new family and his anchor”, she sighs in relief_ crossed paths with us(CHCU) on the streets of Soroti three years ago, he gave his life to Jesus and we started to walk the journey together.
“Moses has been very unique as a person, responds Martha, he has such an influence over his friends in the streets and all of them now know that they cannot continue abusing drugs if they want to be friends with him, every time he meets me or anyone from the organization, we chat normally and attend to the Nitti gritty and he is very accountable, he tells me what he is up to doing, where he will be at, and at  what time and what he will be doing, if he is in need of anything, he asks for it without manipulation, if he is not feeling well he states it out and we address it immediately…. Moses is family” she smiles deeply” unfortunately mama, she continues, we didn’t know that his kidneys were chronically ill and that is why we came home for you the other day after running the required tests and here we are, we know that all is well” , the tales of a great man is unveiled at such a critical hour.
A month later, on a fateful Monday afternoon he is a lighting a taxi just in front of the main hospital gate, after such a long night of staring death straight into his eyes, his edematous feet can no longer help him and so he is supported to seat just besides the road as mama picks a few stuff from the boot. He runs short of breath and as he is rushed into the medical ward for a quick resuscitation, the doctors declare him dead. A great man that the world found of no honor and reputation had just taken his last breath, the team was so broken matter of fact they followed him to the mortuary just so they could tell him that there is still more and Moses never returned. So they arranged for the burial, stood by the family and clan at such a trying moment. While at the burial, the story of a street kid did not only attract hundreds but also spoke life to all that attended, we lay to rest a man that won souls even at his burial ground, extended kindness and fathered even while at the streets, the clan and community resolved that because of the transformation that they have seen in the life of Moses, they are willing to give land for the construction of a church. The true legacy of a man started when we lay him to rest setting such a bar for the community and world at large to embrace the power of walking with men. We just walkedtogether and see….WE JUST WALKED TOGETHER AND WE ARE PERSUADED THAT MOSES WAS JUST AN APOCALUPSIS OF WHAT IS POSSIBLE FROM THE STREETS, every step counts

AKELLO PARTRICIA

Patricia only 8 years with so much ambiguity as to whether to bow down to community stigma and family pressure especially mummy towards her because of her condition or to cope and settle for how the world has labelled her
“Akello is going through so much and l don’t know how l am going to help” reports grandmother, “this girl is suffering in the village and no one cares to know or think she needs help, even her own mother.”
The team from CHCU collaborated with a compassion assisted project and had the girl get all the medical support especially the surgery to correct the genital anomaly and receive formal education in spite of how the world around her labels her, she is currently in a promotional term to primary 2 and has greatly improved on her social and mental wellbeing, she plays with her peers freely in her new environment and is successfully thriving in her new community, the grandmother and her are grateful to God and the team for their endeavors in improving Patricia’s wellbeing.
We believe that every step counts, and hope can be restored
